A Sleep + A Wake, the fourth album from Travel, is either a bold piece of lyric-free art-rock or a fractured mess devoid of structure or focus. If you enjoy Slint or collect instrumental Sonic Youth EPs, there's a good chance you'll side with the former opinion. If you like your rock with a verse-chorus-verse pattern, then turn back while you still have the chance. Whichever side of the fence you fall on, it's hard to deny Travel's grasp of timing and texture, which seems best suited for an atmospheric late-night listen.
