"ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND"
143 pages (softback); 50,000 words (manuscript)

I did not write this book. This is a reissue of my father's novel from 1978. Although this is on my site, I just want to be clear: this book isn't mine. It's my father's. I swear.

ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND is a Chandler-style mystery novel about a blackmailer on the loose and the private eye hired to hunt him down. It's a fairly short paperback thriller with plenty of double-crossings and film noir badness.

Written by Ronald J. Callahan in 1978, only a few copies remain in the world. I decided to reissue the novel in 2004 as a tribute. I read it a long time ago, but reissuing it has been a great experience. It really put me into my father's mindset, his choices as a writer. Before his death in 1980, he had been a magazine publisher, a beat reporter, a CIA agent, a songwriter and a military man. He was a very inspiring person of great depth and intelligence. My mother's way cool, too. Maybe I'll reissue her book next.
