| Why?
"Dark Entries" is a full-on horror movie that's the most commercial piece I've written in a long time. I was originally thinking of writing it as a novel, a follow up to "City of Human Remains." I always threatened to go full-on horror, and with "Horror Academy," the Argento-inspired "Sources," "Mass Grave," the non-fic coffee table book "Horror 101," this "Dark Entries" script, along with " Terror Triangle," I think that's accomplished. Now, "Dark Entries" isn't a novel, it's a screenplay. I did about 100 pages of the book and then stopped. Something was wrong with the language, probably the tense (present) and the point-of-view. So, I killed it. I decided to get the plot straight first so I did it as a screenplay. I still have plans to tackle the novel, but I've got a couple things to take care of first. In the meantime, there's this. I really love the story. As a horror fan, it's pretty much right up my alley. It's classly like "The Shining," but brutal like "The Ring." It's got some big action and great dynamics between the main characters, like "Dawn of the Dead." And, like I always say about horror, it's best when all the rules aren't known to the audience or the characters, and when it's done with some respect. Yes, it's named after a Bauhaus song. And the main character, Erika, spends the climax of the film wearing a Tubeway Army shirt, so that's killer right there. Plus, there are references to "Nightmare on Elm Street," "Deep Red," David Bowie, Rush, "American Werewolf in London," "The Sixth Sense," "Dawn of the Dead," and many others, so horror and cool rock fans have a lot to chew on. Ah, well, maybe someone will dig it... |
