Why?

“Horror Academy” is an anthology stage play featuring the infamous “Where Is the Breakdown?” plus “Three Lines,” “Everything’s Different Here,” and “Red Messages.” It runs about 90 minutes, is in 2 acts, is intended for an all-female cast of 5, and contains some stage combat.

Inspired by the success of “…Breakdown,” both for myself as a writer and with audiences, I decided to write more in that same style. Bundling them together into a single work will make a full production more viable. In isolation, they’re good for fundraisers, festivals, or competitions, but these also work great together as a single, unified show.

Zombies! Cannibals! Vampires! Ghosts! Monsters! Killers! It is, literally, Horror 101 – my own take on all the archetypes. The only things I’m missing are mummies and werewolves. “Horror Academy,” as a title, contains two ideas – this is a horror primer and it’s also a riff on slasher film titles.

In autumn 2007, this show had a world premier in Chicago by the troupe Babes With Blades, a notorious all female state combat troupe. Click here for more info on that.
