Why?

Although this piece isn't too old, horror films had yet to become so self-referential when I wrote it. I thought it was very unique to set a horror movie at a horror movie marathon. However, with the "Scream" movies, this novelty has worn off. I still believe "Horrorthon" is special, though, mostly because of the structure and the focus on true horror-not just slasher killers. Inspiration came from the plain fact that there were so few good horror movies being made. I just love the genre and felt it was being cheated. Horror is a wicked little walk on the dark and somber side, one which few people ever dare to elevate to high art. Sure, there's "The Shining," and recently "The Blair Witch Project" and "The Sixth Sense," and I'll always have a fond place in my heart for "Night of the Living Dead" and "Dawn of the Dead," but these are few and far between.

Two highlights to look for: 1) this screenplay has a great car crash scene, if I don't say so myself, and 2) there's an inverted ending which most surely would be unjustly cut if it ever got made.

This is probably the screenplay I'd most like to see get made. Get John Carpenter and Dean Cundey on the phone!
